If there isn’t a good way to compensate, is there perhaps another codec that matches the brightness and contrast better? One that is as small a file as H.264? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. MPEG Streamclip can also download videos from YouTube. It can play many movie files, not only MPEGs it can convert MPEG files between muxed/demuxed formats for authoring it can encode movies to many formats, including iPod it can cut, trim and join movies.
MPEG STREAMCLIP PROBLEMS YOUTUBE FOR MAC
My question is: do you happen to know of a good Brightness and Contrast adjustment number (in MPEG Streamclip) that would compensate for the crushed black level issue? I was fiddling with the “Adjustments” option to try to compensate and although I have found close matches, it still does not quite look correct MPEG Streamclip is a powerful free video converter, player, editor for Mac and Windows. The high end, or white end, of the spectrum appears the same, but those dark grays seemed to blend together and lose detail. That is, the different shades of dark gray and black all blend together and the overall “setup” level appears to be lower. When I compare the uncompressed files with the H.264 Quicktime files, I notice that the Quicktime files have “crushed” black levels. How do I do simple frame rate conversion (where total duration + audio stays the same) like I used to do as in these MPEG Streamclip settings I used to do this in any direction of frame rate (23.976fps to 30fps, 30fps to 29.97fps, 23. I prefer the H.264 codec because I need smaller files for transfer via FTP. I use MPEG Streamclip to convert my uncompressed files into Quicktime files with the H.264 codec.

Open the VIDEOTS folder in Streamclip, choose the title you want, select Fix timecode breaks in the Edit menu, wait for that to complete and save the video in whatever format you like. I use a PC to digitize and then compress high resolution video. Fixing those requires the freeware application MPEG Streamclip (which in turn requires Apples 20 QuickTime MPEG 2 Playback Component).
